Trash and Recycling

Household Trash

Household trash is collected every Monday and Thursday. Your trash should be placed in tightly closed trash cans at the curb at the end of your driveway. Trash should be placed out for pick-up no earlier than sunset of the evening before collection. Trash cans must be stored out of sight except on collection days.

Household trash includes anything that is not collected by County Recycling, scrap metal, bulk waste or hazardous materials. Questions concerning household trash collection can be directed to TMGA or the Association’s trash contractor, Casella, at (301) 294-9700.

Recycling

Recycling is collected every Thursday. It should be packaged as noted below, then placed out for collection by no earlier than sunset of the evening before collection.  If you live in a home with a front loading garage, recycling should be placed at the curb in front of your home.  If your garage is at the back of your home or if you have an alley behind your home, your recycling should be placed at the end of your alley by the County roadway.

All recycling containers must be stored out of sight, except on collection days.

  • Commingled Materials – Commingled recycling includes cans, bottles, plastic containers and other mixed materials. They should be placed in a blue recycling bin (available for free from the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection).
  • Yard Waste – Yard waste includes grass clippings, leaves, tree branches, trimmings from shrubs and other garden waste. Tree branches should be bundled with string (each bundle should be no more than 4′ in length and 12″ in diameter). All other debris should be placed in paper bags (not plastic) or in plastic containers clearly marked as containing yard waste.
  • Newspapers, Magazines, Cardboard Boxes and Paper – Paper recycling should be placed in paper bags (not plastic) or in a blue recycling toter that can be obtained from the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection.

  • Bulk trash that is NOT mostly made of metal (e.g. furniture) will be picked up by J&J Trash Service.  You must make arrangements with them before putting your trash out for collection. To schedule a bulk trash pickup, click on the above link.  Please note that there is a fee for bulk removal.
